Winter Storm Leo dropped 15 inches of snow in Holt County on Tuesday.
Check out these photos showing the aftermath. According to the National Weather Service, a light mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected to spread over Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa during the day on Sunday, with the heaviest precipitation expected Sunday night in Monday.
The National Weather Service expects the highest ice accumulations south of interstate 80 where there is a potential for a quarter inch or more of ice accumulation. Areas farther north are likely to see more sleet and snow and less icing. Sleet accumulation of one to three inches are possible in far Northeast Nebraska, according to the storm watch. Hazardous travel due to icy or snow-packed roads is likely. Sidewalks and parking lots will be very slippery as well. Some damage to tree limbs and power outages are possible. Precautionary and preparedness actions are recommended. A winter storm watch means there is potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Snow accumulations of four to six inches of snow is possible, and north winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts fo 30 mph are expected. The National Weather Service is warning residents of frigid wind chills which could cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin. Expect to see the weather start dropping on Tuesday, with the high going down to 21 degrees and then to 14 on Wednesday. Although the temperatures will drop, the county is only forecasted for a 30% chance of AM snow showers on Wednesday, with less than an inch of snow expected. Winter has officially hit Holt County, but there are still some sunny days expected throughout Thanksgiving weekend.
Thursday's high is 42 with a low of 27. It will be mostly cloudy with wind, but only a 10% chance of rain. The sun will come out on Friday, warming up the day. The high will be 53 and the low 30 with a 0% chance or rain. Saturday will be another beautiful sunny day, with no rain expected and high of 58 and low 30. Sunday will be the only wet day of the weekend, with a 70% chance of rain in the afternoon, a high of 51 and low of 31. It'll be a great weekend for eating and watching football, and don't miss out on the sunny, warmer days! Although it looks like the 70 degree weekends have come to an end, Holt County still has sunny fall days to look forward to before winter hits.
