The Stuart volleyball ended its season Thursday during the first round of the Class D2 state tournament in Lincoln.
The No. 4 Broncos dropped a 24-26, 25-12, 25-23, 25-22 decision to No. 5 Hampton at Lincoln East. Stuart ends it season with a 25-5 record. The Lady Broncos have received the #4 spot in the State Volleyball Tournament.
With a 25-4 season record, Stuart will travel to Lincoln East to take on the #5 ranked Hampton. The game will be held November 12 at 3:30 p.m. Mullen jumped out to an early lead over Stuart on Thursday and defeated the Broncos in the opening round of the Class D2 playoffs
In a battle of Broncos, No. 12 Mullen won 50-40 to upset No. 5 Stuart on its home turf. Mullen's Gideon Monette rushed for 234 yards on 29 carries. Top-seeded Stuart advanced to the finals of the NVC volleyball tournament with a 3-1 win over Elgin Public Pope John on Tuesday night in Neligh.
The Broncos defeated Elgin Public/Pope John, 20-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-21 in the semifinal. Stuart will play St. Mary's in the NVC final on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Niobrara. It will be the fourth time the teams have played one another this season. Stuart won the first two match-ups. The teams could potentially meet again in subdistricts next week. Top-seeded Stuart advanced to the semifinals of the Niobrara Valley Conference tournament with a win on Monday.
The Broncos defeated No. 8 Niobrara-Verdigre 3-0 at Stuart in the quarterfinal. The Cougars defeated No. 9 Ewing earlier in the night, 25-18, 19-25, 23-25, 25-17, 15-13. No. 1 Stuart will take on No. 4 Elgin Public Pope John at 6:15 p.m. at Neligh-Oakdale. The match on Tuesday will be streamed live here. Stuart earned the seed in the Class D2 football playoffs.
With a 5-3 record, the Broncos will host Mullen on Thursday, Oct. 29. View Playoff Bracket Stuart freshman Kira Dickau competed Friday afternoon at the Class D state cross country meet in Kearney.
Dickau finished 68th in the girls division with at time of 22:56.9. Stuart volleyball was in action last night in an away triangular with Niobrara/Verdigre and Clearwater-Orchard.
They picked up the first game against the N/V Cougars in two sets 25-10, 25-15. Against the Cougars they put down 21 kills and picked up 19 digs. The team served an impressive 13 aces, five of them from Junior Harlee Fischer. Their second game was a close match up with Clearwater-Orchard. They Cyclones pushed them to overtime in the first set, pulling ahead of the Broncos with a set score of 27-29. The Broncos also fell short in the second set 19-25. The team had 31 kills on the Cyclones and picked up 23 digs. Fischer served 3 of the team's 4 aces against O-C. This will leave the team at 19-2 for the season. Up next, the Broncos will be on the road this Thursday to take on Ainsworth and Boyd County. The Broncos remain undefeated going into their fifth game of the season.
Last week they took on the Wausa Vikings and come up on top with a 60-35 victory. The team had a total of 358 rushing yards over the course of the game. Senior Micah Dexter, freshman Chance Engel and senior Tate Schmaderer picked up over a hundred rushing yards a piece. Dexter and Schmaderer each picked up three touchdowns for the team as well. The #5 ranked Broncos will take their 4-0 record on the road this Friday when they clash with the Clearwater-Orchard Cyclones. The Broncos have been having a good year on the grid iron.
The team kicked off their season with a nail biter of a game against Boyd County. After getting pushed into overtime, they scraped up a 32-30 win over the Spartans. In their second game, the Broncos held off Elkhorn Valley. After being down by 13, they came back in the 4th quarter, scoring two touchdowns for a one-point victory over the Falcons 30-29. Last Friday, they picked up their third win of the season at home against Sandhills/Thedford. They were leading the Knights by 8 at halftime. In the second half, the Knights rallied but fell short 36-34. After three close games the undefeated Broncos have moved to the #5 spot on the AP Football rankings for Class D2. The Broncos will attempt to continue their winning streak on the road this Friday against Wausa. |
