The Stuart 4th of July Celebration is coming up, and the community has many events scheduled in celebration of our independence day!

The Stuart faithful will be busy next week at the state track meet at Omaha Burke with 10 competitors in the field. 

For the boys, Tanner Dickau will take part in the 3200 meter run. Chance Engel, Wyatt Paxton, Franklin Fessler and Chance Engel will all represent the Broncos in the 4x100 relay. Paxton will also take part in the 200 and 400 meter dash while Fessler will join him in the 200 and take part in the 100.

For the girls, Kira Dickau earned a spot in the 3200 meter run. The team of Kennison Kunz, Reaghan Engel, Rachel Kaup and Harlee Fischer will take part in the 4x100 meter relay. The 4x400 meter relay, made up of Engel, Kaup, Dickau and Fischer, also earned a spot. Fischer also earned a spot in both the 200 and 400. 

It was a rough night for the Stuart Broncos Tuesday, as they returned from the trip to Orchard with two losses.

The girls struggled to find the net, hitting on just 24 of their shots in a 41-28 loss. 

Harlee Fischer led the Bronocs on the night with 15 points, four rebounds and five assists. Trisha Fox nearly recorded a double double on the night, adding nine points and ten rebounds.

In the late game, the boys fell in heartbreaking fashion to the Cyclones. After entering the fourth quarter with a 40-28 lead, the game looked to be well in hand. However, the Cyclones dropped 18 points, including a game-winning three with less than four seconds remaining, while only allowing three from the Broncos.

Individual stats for the Broncos were unavailable at this time.

St. Mary's and Stuart combined to have an outstanding 12 athletes named to the D2-5 All-District Football Team, announced on Sunday.

On the first team, St. Mary's seniors Josh Cuddy, Will Atkeson, Zac Wiese and Andrew Thompson as well as sophomore Pete Blumenstock all made the cut. For Stuart, seniors Franklin Fessler and Trey Thornburg finish their high school careers with first team honors.

St. Mary's had four players earn honorable mention in Jack Reiman, Jared Atkeson, Taylan Resier and Jake Crumly while Stuart's Ethan Sattler represented the Broncos.

Stuart was unable to keep their season alive when they squared off with a familiar opponent at subdistricts Monday night.

The Broncos fell to fellow Holt County squad Chambers/Wheeler Central is straight sets 25-12, 25-21, 25-12.

Harlee Fischer led the Bronco attack with 15 kills. She also recorded three blocks.

The loss ends the Bronco's season at 18-9, a slight dip from last year's 25-5 squad.

The Stuart Broncos entered the Niobrara Valley Conference tournament with their eyes set on a conference championship. 

However, North Central did as well.

The fourth-seeded Broncos were the victims of an upset bid at the hands of the Knights, falling in four sets 25-16, 23-25, 25-12, 25-17.

The win sends the Knights on to a third round match up with top-seeded Elgin Public/Pope John while the Broncos now must wait until district play to return to the court.

Kira Dickau likely had the top 15 runners in her sights the entire time.

Unfortunately, she was unable to catch them, finishing at 17th to just barely miss out on earning a medal at the State Cross Country Meet in Kearney Friday.

Dickau, a sophomore, finished with a time of 21:05.9. She was just over seven seconds behind the 15th place runner. 

Rylee Rice of Ainsworth took home first place with a time of 18:34.3.
