St. Mary's Unable To Keep Up With Cyclones In Loss

A trip to Orchard on Thursday turned out to be the opposite of what St. Mary's was hoping for.

The Cardinals struggled to move the ball against the stout Cyclone defense and were kept on their heels all night by O-C's variety of weapons in a 58-22 loss.

The Cardinals gave up over 350 yards of offense. Offensively, they seemed to have a handle on things early in the first quarter, but struggled with turnovers throughout the game, including three interceptions.

Down 14-0 with two minutes to go in the first, Taylan Reiser got the Cardinals on the board with a seven-yard dive into the end zone. On the ensuing kickoff, the Cyclones touched the ball before it went out of bounds on the four, setting up a fumbled snap for a safety that brought the Cardinals to within four. However, it didn't get any closer after that.

Quarterback Grady Semin was picked off three times - once for a score. St. Mary's was unable to get back on the board until late in the fourth when Clearwater-Orchard was already ahead 58-10. The final two scores of the game came when Semin connected with Tate Shoemaker for a 13-yard score and when Zach Crumly barreled in from a yard out with under a minute left.

Other Holt County scores from Thursday:
Stuart takes down Central Valley 34-28.
