O'Neill Cross Country Team Opens Season

The O'Neill Eagle Cross Country Team opened their season at the Boone Central Invitational.

Overall the girl's team placed 5th with twelve full teams competing. The girl's team had two individual medalist, juniors Whitney Watson placing 9th, and Lilli Thompson placing 14th. Competing at the varsity level was Tessa Rainforth 24th, Briaunna Parks 25th, Taya Rainforth 43rd, and Gabby Montes 53rd. Rounding out the Lady Eagles was Daisy Acevedo 57th and Alexa Shald 62nd.

“The girls team competed really well. The field for the girl's was really competitive. We just need to get stronger every meet,” said Coach Hilker.

The boy's team placed 7th overall with twelve full teams competing as well. Nathaniel Jennings led the team by placing 22nd overall. To follow was Ehric Strope 37th, Tyler Beeks 60th, Lucas Dougherty 69th, and Ethan Nelson 77th. 

Coach Hilker explained, “We are better than we showed on Friday. We can’t sit back after the first 1000 meters. We need to be more aggressive. We’ll get better."

​The junior high teams had one medallist Tye Rainforth, placing 6th. The junior high boy’s team placed 5th, and girl’s team 7th. Next week the O’Neill Eagles compete at the Norfolk Catholic Invitational. High school girls will begin at 3:00 pm, followed by high school boys, and then junior high.
