Stuart Man Arrested After Crashing Stolen Pickup Into Tree

A Stuart man was arrested Wednesday south of Emmet after crashing pickup into a tree that had been reported stolen.

According to a release from the O'Neill Police Department, Charles D. Moore, 20 of Stuart, was transported to Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital by the Atkinson Rescue Unit for treatment of his injuries. 

The O’Neill Police Department and Holt County Sheriff’s Office  started a pursuit around 7 p.m. in O’Neill after an O’Neill Police Department unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop with a white, 2015 GMC pickup, previously reported stolen.  

And in addition, officers were advised of an existing arrest warrant for the driver. The pursuit proceeded west on Highway 20 and ended when the white, GMC pickup struck a tree approximately one quarter of a mile south of Highway 20, on 484th Avenue near Emmet.  

Pending charges include operation of a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, willful reckless driving and possession of marijuana.
