The St. Mary’s Lady Cardinals are in the midst of one of the most dominant runs in D2 and they don’t intend to slow down any time soon.

The Cardinals followed up back-to-back state championships with a state runner-up title in 2015. They look to add to that success under third-year head coach McKenzie Connot. However, they will have to do that with a team that lost six seniors.

St. Mary’s gets the 2016 season started September 1 at the Plainview Triangular.

Team Profile:

ST. MARY’S CARDINALS
Class: D2
Coach: McKenzie Connot
2015 record: 31-3
2015 playoffs: State Runner-up

Returning starters: Five

Returning letter winners: Logan Connot, Sr., Hattie Blumenstock, Sr., Taylor Colman, 12., Breanna Hedstrom, Sr., Brianna Bauer, So., Hailey Eiler

Players to watch: Logan Connot, Hattie Blumenstock, Taylor Colman

2016 Outlook: "We have a solid senior class who are all ready to take control, be good leaders, and continue the success that our program has had.” - Coach McKenzie Connot. St. Mary’s has made the state finals in three straight seasons, an incredible feat. It’s hard to fathom a team making it for a fourth straight year, but when you return five starters like the Cardinals do, your chances are good. Look for them to hit the 30-win mark yet again and make some noise at the state tournament.

St. Mary’s football is prepared to kick off the 2016 season with a familiar name at the helm.

Tony Allen will once again roam the sidelines for the Cardinals, who look to get back to their winning ways after three straight losing seasons. St. Mary’s will look to their six seniors to lead the way in an attempt to return to the D2 state playoffs.

St. Mary’s kicks off the 2016 season August 26 at Allen.
