On Monday, September 21st, St. Mary's alumna and local author Mary Mattern Gonderinger visited the grade school to share with the Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades her recently published children's book, "Socks and Hobbs."

Mary, daughter of Marilyn Mattern, a current resident of O'Neill, graduated from St. Mary's in 1978, as did all eight of her siblings. She is married to Bob Gonderinger, a graduate of the St. Mary's Class of 1975. They have 5 children, and live in Omaha, Nebraska.

"Socks and Hobbs" is a short story based on her own two cats by the same names, and teaches a lesson about the importance of compromise.
