St. Mary's rallied for a big five-set win over Hampton to advance to the Class D2 state championship.

The Cardinals won 14-25, 25-23, 14-25, 25-23, 15-8 and will play the winner of Exeter-Milligan vs. Sandhills/Thedford at 9 a.m. on Saturday the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

In front of screaming Cardinal fans on Friday morning at Pinnacle Bank Arena, the Cardinals struggled against Hampton.

In the fourth set, St. Mary's was down 8-2 but battled back to within one at 18-17. Hampton started to pull away and was up 21-18 when the Cardinals fought back to tie the set at 22-all before rallying for the 25-23 win.

In the decisive fifth set, it was an early battle as St. Mary's held a slim 10-7 advantage. But the Cardinals finished off the set with a 5-1 run to claim the victory.
