![]() By Logan Lawson logan@pitzerdigital.com The O'Neill Pinnacle Bank Irish Juniors wrapped up an impressive regular season Tuesday night with a 12-7 win over Albion. The win helped the Irish to finish nearly perfect on the year with a 21-1 record. After a first inning that saw both teams score three runs each, the Irish took control, scoring at least one run in the second, fifth, sixth and seventh innings. O'Neill was lead offensively by Wyatt Liewer, Justin Appleby and Alex Thramer, who combined for nine of the 12 Irish runs. Shayne Campbell had three hits, Blake Krysl had two and Francisco Perez and Pete Blumenstock each added one hit. Liewer got the start on the mound for O'Neill, pitching three innings before Blumenstock came on in relief. Despite a three-run seventh by Albion, Blumenstock was able to finish the game for the Irish. The O'neill pitchers were aided defensively by outstanding plays from Perez at catcher, who threw out two attempted steals from Albion, and Thramer, who had a great throw to complete an outstanding double play. The win locked up the second seed for the Irish in the area tournament that begins July 8 in Wayne. O'Neill's first game in the tournament will be against Columbus Lakeview at 6:30 p.m. The Irish also will host a league tournament game this Friday, July 1 with the hopes of making their way to the league finals July 5 in Crofton. |
