NECC Offers Variety Of Classes At O'Neill Campus In April

The Northeast Community College is offering a variety classes at the O'Neill campus later this month.  

Build a Blanket Ladder (CNST 5105/16S & CRN #70509) will be held Monday, April 18, from 6-9 p.m. in the Northeast Community College Extended campus, 505 Highway 20, Room 132.

Blanket ladders are a simple yet decorative way to keep favorite quilts and throws easily accessible. The ladder-style blanket holder is easy to build using wood and a few basic hand tools.

In this class, Instructor Rod Ludemann will walk students through the planning and construction stages as well as demonstrate different types of finishes. Students will start and complete their projects all in one evening.

Medication Aide class coming to Northeast Community College in O’Neill
The class (HLTH 1120/16S & CRN #23105), which runs from April 18-29, will meet Mondays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. as well as Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 8:10 p.m. Karen Hoffman will be the instructor for this three-credit class.

This course is designed to prepare students to meet the requirements of the Medication Aide Act and the responsibilities of the medication aide in an assisted living facility and/or nursing facility It will include information regarding medication administration, pharmacology, rules and regulations, classification of drugs, order, storage, abbreviations and an overview of commonly used drugs and documentation.

Upon completion of the course, students are eligible to take the state administered written exam. After successfully passing the exam and completing the application process, students will be placed on the medication aide registry at the Nebraska Health and Human Services Regulation and Licensure, Credentialing Division.

Cost for the course is $316.5,0. Cost does not include a book, which is available at the O’Neill Extended Campus. To register, call Northeast Community College in O’Neill at 402-336-3590. The class cannot be registered for online.
 
Pediatric Life Support (PALS) (HLTH 5510/16S & CRN #70331) will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, April 19-20, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 505 East Highway 20, Rooms 104 and 105.

The class will provide healthcare professionals with the knowledge of prevention and recognition of cardiopulmonary arrest in infant and children.  The participants will perform cognitive and psychomotor skills needed to resuscitate and stabilize infants and children in cardiopulmonary arrest.

Cost of the class, with Jennifer Koehlmoos the instructor, is $160.

Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers CPR/AED (HLTH 5300/16S & CRN #70046) will meet Wednesday and Thursday, April 20-21, from 6-9 p.m. at the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 505 East Highway 20, Room 132.

This course provides a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. This course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR as well as other lifesaving skills in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. A BLS for Healthcare Providers course certification card will be issued upon successful completion.

Cost of the class, with Jenna Hoffman the instructor, is $60 and does not include cost of the textbook, which is available at the O’Neill Extended Campus. To register for these classes, call Northeast Community College in O’Neill at (402) 336-3590.
 
Watercolor Painting (ARTS 5163/16S & CRN #70471) will be held Wednesday, April 20, from 6-9 p.m. in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 505 East Highway 20, Room 126.

Students will push color to the limit in this spring floral watercolor class. They will explore the free, loose, uncontrolled character of watercolor using bold colors on textured paper to create poppies, peonies and irises.

Watercolor Techniques (ARTS 5163/16S & CRN #70472) will meet Wednesday, April 27, from 6-9 p.m. in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 505 East Highway 20, Room 126.

In this class, students will perk up their watercolor paintings by creating textures using everyday materials. They will discover what salt, rubbing alcohol, a toothpick or a tissue will do to add both subtle variations and dramatic effects to their watercolors.

For both classes, participants are asked to bring their own aprons or paint shirts. All class supplies and materials are included in the price. Cost of each class, with Ranell Otte the instructor, is $38.

Microsoft Word 2013, Level 2 (INFO 5320/16S & CRN #70095) will be held Tuesday, April 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 505 East Highway 20, Room 122.

In this course, students will increase the complexity of Microsoft Word documents by adding components such as customized lists, tables, charts and graphics. Focus will also include inserting clip art, applying themes, working with views, formatting text, setting margins, using bullets, paragraph spacing, borders and shading.

Cost for the course, with Amanda Avidano the instructor, is $70.

Websites for Beginners (INFO 5240/16S & CRN #70061) will meet Wednesday, April 20, from 1-5 p.m. at the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, 505 East Highway 20, in Room 122. 

In this course, students will discover easy-to-use design tools that can build their personal or business websites. They will learn how to find and upload images, create pages, link pages, how to navigate and how to apply backgrounds. A basic introduction to HTML, CSS and Java Script code writing will also be covered. These tools will be learned on the WordPress platform, which is highly recommended by many professional custom website designers.
