NECC in O'Neill Offers New Classes Starting In January

Northeast Community College in O’Neill will offer a variety of new classes in January.

Certified Pharmacy Technician Exam Preparation (HLTH 5310/17S & CRN #70151) will meet Thursdays, and Sundays, January 8-February 2, 6-10 p.m. in Room 103 of the O’Neill Extended Campus, 505 East Highway 20.

Designed for those working toward their pharmacy technician certification and preparing for the PTCB exam, this course offers a comprehensive study review that is aligned with the requirements of the PTCB exam and expectations of employers. It includes reviews in each of the nine knowledge domains: pharmacy calculations, top 200 drugs, drug classifications, suffixes and others.

Cost for the course, with Mary Hammond the instructor, is $499. Price includes training manual and calculations workbook, practice exam and cost to apply for certification and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam. Financial assistance is available through the Community College Gap Assistance Program for students meeting income guidelines.

Participants can choose from two sessions for Core Construction. The first option (HPER 5135/17S & CRN #70066) meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 10-February 9, from 12:00-12:25 p.m. The second option (HPER 5135/17S & CRN #70067) will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 10-February 9, from 5:30-6:15 p.m. Both classes meet in Room 131 of the Northeast O’Neill campus, 505 East Highway 20.

In this class, participants will strengthen their abdominal and back muscles with core enhancing Pilates exercises and strength building yoga poses. Regardless of fitness level, participants will improve their flexibility and balances. Each class session will end with a total body stretch and relaxation as well.
Cost of the class, with Jodi Loecker the instructor, is $75.

Farm and Ranch Welding (WELD 1990/17S & CRN #23672) meets Mondays, January 9-March 3, 5:30-8:30 p.m. in Room 131 at the O’Neill Extended Campus, 505 East Highway 20. This course provides students with applied skills in the construction, maintenance and repair of welded agricultural equipment and facilities. Emphasis is placed on the welding processes commonly used in the agricultural industry: shielded metal arch welding (SMAW) stick and gas metal arc welding (GMAW). Participants will gain a technical understanding of welding safety; equipment setup; operation and maintenance; metallurgy; and proper material handling and preparation techniques that apply to the MIG and stick welding processes. Cost of the class, with Donald Taylor the instructor, is $219.

Leadership Essentials (LEAD 5125 & CRN #70144) will meet Thursday, January 19, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. in Room 104 of the Northeast Community College Extended Campus in O’Neill, 505 East Highway 20. Leading people can be challenging, and it can be even more challenging when leaders are not exposed to training and development opportunities. In this course, leaders will benefit from increasing their skills in collaboration, effective communications and driving top performance.
Cost of the class, with Chuck Price the instructor, is $120.

The Medication Aide class (HLTH 1120/17S & CRN #23650), which runs from January 19-31, will meet Mondays and Saturdays, 9 a.m.-3:45 p.m. as well as Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 4-7:35 p.m. The Friday class on January 27 will meet 9 a.m.-3:45 p.m., and class will not meet Saturday, January 28. All sessions meet in Room 105 of the O’Neill extended campus, 505 East Highway 20.

This course is designed to prepare students to meet the requirements of the Medication Aide Act and the responsibilities of the medication aide in an assisted living facility and/or nursing facility It will include information regarding medication administration, pharmacology, rules and regulations, classification of drugs, order, storage, abbreviations and an overview of commonly used drugs and documentation.

Upon completion of the course, students are eligible to take the state administered written exam. After successfully passing the exam and completing the application process, students will be placed on the medication aide registry at the Nebraska Health and Human Services Regulation and Licensure, Credentialing Division.

Cost for the course, taught by instructor Karen Hoffamn, is $328.50. Cost does not include a textbook, which is available at the O’Neill Extended Campus for $38.79.
