The O’Neill Lady Eagles made the long trip to Aurora High School for the Aurora Invitational. Despite chilly and windy conditions at the meet, several athletes were able to place in this always competitive meet.

O’Neill was led again by 2015 State meet placer, sophomore Mikayla Marvin, who tied her personal best in the pole vault clearing 10 feet even to place second in the event.

Freshman, Lilly Thompson, continues to have a nice season by placing fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:38.62. Lilly also was on the 4 x 800 relay and the 4 x 400 relay that both placed fourth.

Abby Gillham placed fifth in the 3200 with a time of 13:33.78. Samantha Eichelberger also placed fifth in the 300 low hurdles with a time of 52.32.

The relays all placed also. The 4 x 100 relay team consisting of Aurora Gutshall, Briaunna Parks, Allison Ludwig and Samantha Eichelberger placed 6th. The 4 x 400 team made up of Lily Thompson, Claire Morrow, Mikayla Marvin and Briaunna Parks placed fourth with a time of 4:41.74.  The 4 x 800 team of Lilly Thompson, Payton Birkel, Tessa Rainforth and Claire Morrow finished with a time of 11:26.59 to place fourth.

Allison Ludwig had another good day for the Eagles placing third in the high jump clearing 4’ 8” and placing sixth in the triple jump with a jump of 31’ 9 1/4”. Aurora Gutshall also cleared 4’ 8” in the high jump for a sixth place medal.

Coach Mike Peterson said, “I felt we had a few girls step up and compete well, but we still have a ways to go to be a complete track team. We need every girl to compete every day, every practice and every meet to be where I want our team to be. We look forward to competing at our home meet on Thursday, April 14.”
