The O'Neill Lady Eagles competed well Thursday, April 16th, at the O'Neill Invitational track meet, despite having to contend with less-than-ideal elements throughout the day.

O’Neill finished in 5th place, just one point behind Ainsworth. Ord won the team title with 170 points.

There were many placers among the Lady Eagles at the meet, and the freshmen members of the team shined. One was Makayla Marvin, who placed 2nd in the pole vault, vaulting 9-0 ft. Marvin also placed 5th in the 400 meters with a time of 68:39, 5th in the 100 meter high hurdles at 18:21, and a 6th place finish in the 300 meter low hurdles with a personal best time of 53:80.

Fellow freshman teammate Aurora Gutshall also placed in four events with a 3rd place finish in the high jump, clearing 4-6. Gutshall placed 3rd in the 100 high hurdles with a 17.43 time; 5th in the 300 low hurdles at 51.90, and leading off the 4 x 100 relay that placed 4th.

Another freshman, Sam Eichelberger, also placed in multiple events, finishing 4th in the 100 meter dash at 14.02, 6th in the 100 high hurdles with a 18.26 time, and running in the 4 x 100 meter relay that finished in 4th place.

Yet another freshman showing a lot of promise this year is Briaunna Parks who placed 5th in the 100 meters and 6th in the 200 meters.

Freshman Amanda Brown continues to improve, placing 5th in the discus with a personal best toss of 93-5 feet.

Senior Lady Eagle Randi Pinkerman was a double medal winner with a 4th place finish in the high jump and as anchor in the 4 x 100 meter relay team.

The 4 x 800 meter relay team continues to get better each week as well, and placed 4th with a time of 11:25.80. Team members include: Payton Birkel, Kaddee Harner, Kadra Sommersted-Simmons and Abby Gillham. The 4 x 400 meter relay team, consisting of McKenzie Adamson, Kadra Sommersted-Simmons, Gabbie Scott, and Payton Birkel, logged a 6th place finish. McKenzie also finished in 5th place in the triple jump going 30-7.

Lady Eagles head track coach Mike Peterson had this to say,

“Even though we had less-than-ideal conditions in some of the events, I felt we had some good success at this meet. We really need to get all of our events scoring at the same meet to be able to battle for team championships at this point. We have a lot of girls scoring points, but not at the same time. Once we get this figured out, we should really improve as a team.”

Congratulations to the Lady Eagle track team for their commendable performance!
