Two Holt County squads went head to head in a Saturday special in O'Neill as St. Mary's hosted Stuart.

St. Mary's used their consistent running game to overpower the Broncos, taking the win 36-6 to stay undefeated.

The Cardinals jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter before extending the lead to 22-0 at the half. They continued to grind it out on the ground in the second half, pushing the lead to 30-0 before the Broncos finally answered with a Ethan Sattler touchdown pass to Trey Thornburg in the fourth quarter. St. Mary's scored once more in the fourth to reach the final score.

Quarterback Josh Cuddy led the way for the Cardinals, scoring three times and gaining 152 yards on the ground. He was also two for five passing for 39 yards. Pete Blumenstock was the second-leading rusher for the Cardinals, grinding for 67 yards and a touchdown. Andrew Thompson was responsible for the final touchdown for St. Mary's.

Defensively, Zac Wiese hauled in two interceptions while Cuddy added a pick for St. Mary's.

The Broncos struggled offensively, gaining just 103 total yards.

Sattler was just three for 18 passing with a touchdown and three interceptions for Stuart. His 44 rushing yards also led the team.

Defensively, Connor Jarman was all over the field, recording 24 total tackles. Not to be outdone, Franklin Fessler gathered 20 total tackles. Chance Engel, Andrew Olson and and Thornburg recorded 17, 15 and 10 tackles respectively.

St. Mary's now moves to 4-0 ahead of their matchup with Elkhorn Valley Friday evening. Stuart falls to 2-2 going into their matchup with Osmond on Friday.
