A Celebration of Life for Bill Meyer, age 63, of Orchard will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday May 2, 2017 at Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill.

A private burial will take place at a later date in Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Orchard.

Visitation will be from 5-7 pm at Biglin’s Mortuary.

Bill passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk.

Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

William Robert Meyer was born on June 3, 1953 in Neligh, Nebraska to Robert and Laurel (Jones) Meyer.  He grew up in rural Antelope County and attended Country School north of Orchard though the eighth grade. Bill graduated from Orchard High School in 1972.

Bill married Rita Vandersnick at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Ewing in 1977.  They made their life farming in Antelope County.  Bill farmed for Gene Harvey of Page and Henry Grabowski of rural Neligh before returning home to partner with his father, Bob and brothers, Richard and Frank.  Bill continued to farm and custom harvest until his death.

Bill was diagnosed with diabetes in 1977 and began a lifetime of treatment, including a pancreas transplant in 1995 and a living donor kidney transplant from his wife, Rita, in 1996.  Diabetes and its complications were a continuous presence in his life, but Bill still lived a full and rewarding life.  He was a successful farmer and a respected businessman in the community.

Bill spent his free time indulging his love for cars.  His latest project was the restoration of the first pickup his father had owned, a 1948 Chevy.  Bill and Rita travelled to many car shows and participated in multiple road rallies and touring events, often times accompanied by his beloved Boston Terriers, Elvis and Priscilla.

Bill is survived by his wife of 39 years, Rita Meyer of Orchard, his father, Robert Meyer of Orchard, his two brothers; Richard Meyer and his wife, Eva, of Orchard, Frank Meyer and his wife, Kathy of Orchard, his sister, Judy Olson of Orchard, and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Laurel Meyer, infant brother, Michael Meyer; father-in-law, Roy Vandersnick; two brother-in-laws, Todd Olson and John Carrizales; and nephew, Chris Vandersnick.
