Vera passed away Saturday evening, July 2, 2016, at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill. Memorials may be made to Memorial Baptist Church or the Chambers Volunteer Fire Department.

Vera was born on February 15, 1925, in Norfolk, NE, to Roy B. and Laura (Martin) Marlow. She attended school in Norfolk and graduated from Norfolk High School 1943. Vera worked as a bookkeeper at Joyce Lumber Company in Norfolk before marrying Paul W. Hubel on May 25, 1947 at the First Baptist Church in Norfolk. The couple moved to the farm southeast of Chambers, NE, in the Goose Lake area, where they lived for many years. While on the farm, Vera did everything from milking cows, driving the hay sweep, to feeding the hay crew. She even learned to shoot a gun and enjoyed fishing. Vera truly was a city girl turned country girl.

Vera was a wonderful cook and would cook anything the boys shot or caught. In her early years, she made wedding cakes for her friends and children. Vera was an avid card and game player to say the least. Whether it be with her family or Tuesday brunch group, she would play anytime, day or night. Vera had a heart of gold and was the cornerstone of the Goose Lake Community and always made sure flowers were sent when a neighbor fell ill or experienced a loss. She never missed a family member's birthday. It was always a highlight for Vera anytime family or neighbors could get together. Unexpected guests were always made to feel welcome in Vera's home and they never left hungry.

She also enjoyed knitting, especially making baby blankets for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Most importantly, Vera was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She always made time for each of them and will be truly missed by all that knew her and loved her.

She is survived by her 5 Children; Donna Chapman and husband Ken of Norfolk, NE, Patricia Anson of Ewing, NE, Ron Hubel of Omaha, NE, Jim Hubel and wife Barb of rural Ewing, NE, and Sandy Johnson and husband Michael of Hastings, NE, 14 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren, sister, Eva Seda of Norfolk, NE, Sister-In-Law, Violet Hubel of Hastings, NE, and Brother-In-Law, Harold Kahler of Norfolk, NE.
