Private Graveside Services for Sharon Kay Goldfuss, age 78, of O’Neill, will be held at a later date, in the O’Neill Cemetery.  Sharon passed away Monday, May 8, 2017, at Heritage of Bel Air Nursing Home in Norfolk, NE.  Arrangements are under the direction of Biglin’s Mortuary.  Memorials may be directed to Christ Lutheran Church in O’Neill.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Blum, Benjamin Blum, Jesse Blum, Josh Herbers, and Adam Martinsen.  Honorary Pallbearers are Kerry Koerting, Kyle Koerting, Nicole Herbers Moritz, Ben Moritz, Melissa Blum, Cathie Herbers, and Katie Timm.

Sharon was born on February 9, 1939 to Earl and Maxine (Gunsolley) McDonald in Onawa, Iowa.
Her father was in construction, so her family moved quite often from one state to the next. In 1956, she met Eugene Goldfuss in Pierre, SD.  Gene worked for her father and Earl just knew he had introduce him to his daughter Sharon.  As they say, the rest is history. Sharon and Gene were married three months later at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Orchard Ne. They were married nearly 60 years until Gene passed in 2016.

Gene and Sharon rented several different farms before they decided to hit the road and do custom harvesting, traveling from Texas to North Dakota and Montana.

Sharon was a hard worker; whether she was caring for her young children while driving a combine, tractor or truck, she always managed to get it done.  She could drive a truck all day long with a sick kid right beside her in the truck and back as straight as a string right to that grain auger!  She was a heck of a cook.  No matter what time the hired help and Gene got done for the day, there was always a hot meal waiting.

In later years when Gene went on harvest with a big crew, she decided she had had enough and she was going to stay home.  She worked at Gibson’s in O’Neill.  Also, for a short time, she sprayed lawns for a lawn care company.  Then, was at Shamrock Nursery for 17 springs. She loved flowers and her garden. Always put up all kinds of vegetables and froze many strawberry pints.

Sharon was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in O’Neill for 45 years.   She was very active in the church and served on many committees.  When her health began to decline and she physically couldn’t attend, she still enjoyed listening to church services on KBRX.

She will be missed by many; she loved her kids and grandkids.  Always threw a beautiful holiday celebration, with the prettiest table settings you have ever seen.

She is survived by her children; Debra (Mike) Feauto, Norfolk, NE; Beth (Chuck) Martinsen, O’Neill, NE and Connie (Rob) Herbers, Omaha, NE. Grandchildren; Chris (Melissa) Blum, Kerry (Kyle) Koerting, Benjamin Blum, Jesse Blum and Katy Timm all of Norfolk, Josh (Cathie) Herbers, Sioux Falls, SD, Nicole Herbers (Ben) Moritz, Alamogordo, NM and Adam Martinsen, O’Neill, NE, 17 Great Grandchildren, Niece, Lori Bettger, Medford, OR and Nephews; Steve Weigand, Portland, OR and Dave Weigand, Seattle WA.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Gene, her mother and father, a grandson, Brandon Blum, son-in-law, Del Blum, her sister Janice, and brother Kenneth.
