Funeral Services for Marjorie Ann Hovey

Funeral Services for Marjorie Ann Hovey, age 89, of O’Neill, NE will be 11:00 AM Monday, July 6, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in O’Neill. Rev. Gary Merritt will officiate. Burial will be in the O’Neill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 9:30 AM until time of the service at the church. Marjorie passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at the Golden Living Center in O’Neill. Memorials may be given to the United Methodist Church in O’Neill, NE. Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill is in charge of arrangements.

Marjorie is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mary Hovey of Rose Hill, KS, 2 grandchildren, Pam Turner of Pittsburg, KS and Doug Hovey of Arkansas City, KS, 10 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Faye Wheeler of O’Neill and Etta Grider of Aurora, CO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard, son Robert, sisters, Betty Pittack and Lois Murray, and brother Francis “Bud” Murray.

Marjorie Ann Hovey was born January 23, 1926 in Kingsley, IA to Frank A. and Ferne (Manker) Murray. She spent her early years in rural Nebraska before graduating from Atkinson High School in Atkinson, NE.

Marjorie married Richard L. Hovey shortly after he returned from WWII on June 22, 1946 at the First Congregational Church in Neligh, NE. To this union one son, Robert, was born. They spent their first years in South Bend, IN where Marjorie worked at a dress factory. It was there that she developed her love for clothes. She was always known for her classy appearance no matter where she went. In 1950, they moved to O’Neill where she lived the rest of her life. Marjorie loved the O’Neill community and was very active in the United Methodist Church, the Rebekah’s and the church circle. She worked many years for JM McDonalds and was instrumental in starting the Community Wardrobe in O’Neill.

Most of all, Marjorie was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She would always make it a point to help someone out whenever they needed it.
