Funeral Services For Madeline Sawyer

A Mass of Christian Burial for Madeline Sawyer, age 73, formerly of Inman, will be celebrated Friday, April 15, 2016, 10:30 a.m., St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, O’Neill, NE, followed by interment at the O’Neill Calvary Cemetery.

Lunch will be served in the Parish Hall immediately following Interment.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 14, 2016, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Biglins Mortuary, 111 N 3rd Street, O’Neill, NE.

Madeline passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 10, 2016, in Lincoln, NE, surrounded by her family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the family for future designation.

Madeline Mulligan Sawyer was born September 19, 1942, in The Bronx, New York, to Madeline and Michael Mulligan, the youngest of three children. She attended Cathedral High School and graduated from Hunter College in New York City. She married Jimmie Sawyer of Inman on December 26th, 1964 in New York City. They had 4 children and 12 grandchildren, and lived most of their married life in Inman, with brief periods in Milford, NE and Lake Carmel, NY. Madeline was a dedicated and beloved elementary school teacher in Inman for 32 years, teaching combined kindergarten, first, second and third grades in the Inman School District. She retired in 2003 and they split their time between Inman and Wappapeloo, MO. She moved to Lincoln after Jim’s death in 2010, where she was very active at The Lake Street Senior Center.

Madeline is survived by her children: Jeanne Sawyer of Grand Island and her children, Justin and Andrew, Michael Sawyer and his wife Sheila of Lexington, SC and their children Miranda, Seth, Steven, Jacob, and Tyler, Theresa Sawyer Bruns of Lincoln and her children Kevlin and Shelby, and Kelly Sawyer Henry of Grand Island and her children Jackson, Isaac, and Lydia. Surviving also is her sister, Marie Lauria and her husband Donald, of Chapel Hill, NC; her sister-in-law Ann Mulligan of Tampa, FL, brothers-in-law Larry Sawyer and wife Kae of Kearney, NE, Mick Sawyer and wife Sherryl of Inman, NE, sons-in-law Barry Bruns of Lincoln, NE, Jack Henry of Grand Island, NE, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Madeline was preceded in death by her husband Jimmie, parents Michael and Madeline, brother Donald, In-laws Clifford and Cleo Sawyer and her devoted dog, Deeko.
