Funeral Services For Jerome Spittler

Jerome Spittler, age 96, of O'Neill passed away Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill.

Following his wishes, his body will be cremated and there will be private family services at a later date.

Jerome Arthur Spittler was born on November 10, 1919 in Ewing to Arthur and Sophia (Sanders) Spittler. He graduated from Ewing High School in 1937.

Jerome enlisted in the Army in 1941, serving in France during World War II. He was Honorably Discharged in 1945.

Jerome married Eileen Kelly at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in O’Neill on December 5, 1942. After the war, the couple made their home in O’Neill. Jerome was a mail carrier for the United States Post Office for almost 30 years before he retired at the age of 55.

Jerome enjoyed gardening and wood working. He was a big football and baseball fan and enjoyed watching old westerns on tv. He was also very fond of his dog, Buffy.

Jerome is survived by his wife of 73 years, Eileen Spittler of O’Neill; four children, Douglas Spittler and his wife, Joyce of Kalama, Washington, Bruce Spittler and his wife, Peggy of Bend, Oregon, Kerry Spittler of Eagle Rock, California, and Barb Reyes of Beaverton, Oregon; two son-in-laws, Randin Nickeson of Plattsmouth, and Dennis Tomlinson of O’Neill; ten grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

​Jerome was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Renee Tomlinson and Vicky Nickeson; one sister, Adelaide Rotherham; three brothers, LeMartin Sanders, Gerard Sanders, and infant Gerald Sanders.
