A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen Peters, age 87, of O’Neill, will be at 10:30 A.M., Friday, September 9, 2016, at St. Patrick’s Catholic church in O’Neill, with burial in the O’Neill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 8, 2016, from 5-8 P.M., with a 7:00 P.M. Rosary at Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill.

Helen passed away September 6, 2016, at the Golden Living Center in Neligh, NE. Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Helen was born on June 1, 1929, in Hammond, NE, to Samuel Douglas (Doug) Shaw and Dorothea (Martens) Shaw Willis. Her family included her three brothers William, Merlyn, and Robert Shaw and two sisters, Maxine Shaw Pochop and Leila Shaw Kamphaus.

Helen lived in Rose, NE, and attended school there until the family relocated to a ranch south of O’Neill. There, she attended grade school in District 165 and graduated from O’Neill High School. She was a teacher in several rural schools in the surrounding area. On September 2, 1947, Helen was united in marriage to Stanley Peters. Together they were blessed with five children: Judy, Donald, Mary, Linda, and Thomas.

Helen and her husband made their home on a ranch south of O’Neill. She enjoyed working beside her husband, while raising her children. She was a “jill of all trades” who excelled at sewing, cooking, and baking. She will be remembered for her faith in God, her love of the Blessed Virgin Mary, her rosary, which she prayed often, and her love and encouragement she gave so freely to all.

She is survived by her children: Judy O’Malley of Storm Lake, IA, Donald Peters and wife Rita of Elkhorn, NE, Mary Clausen of Lincoln, NE, Thomas Peters of O’Neill, NE, sister Leila Kamphaus of O’Neill, NE, Sisters-in-law: Genevieve Shaw of O’Neill, Ruby Shaw of O’Neill, and Judy Shaw of Albion, NE, 11 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Stanley Peters, daughter Linda Peters, her 3 brothers, one sister, Maxine Pochop, brothers-in-law Glen Pochop and Joe Kamphaus and Sons-in-law Jeff Clausen and Joe O’Malley.
