Funeral Services For Harold R. Asher

Funeral Services for Harold R. Asher, age 97, of Page, NE, will be at 10:30 A.M., Friday, May 13, 2016, at the Page United Methodist Church with burial in the Page Cemetery.
Pastor Stuart Davis will officiate.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 12, 2016, from 5-8 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service at Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill.

Harold passed away Monday, May 9, 2016, at Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill.

Memorials are directed to the Page United Methodist Church or Page Volunteer Fire Department.

Harold Ross Asher, son of Neil and Freida (Fuelberth) Asher, was born January 17, 1919 at Page. After an eighth grade education in country school, he helped his father on the farm.

On March 24, 1943 he was united in marriage to Helen Fern Appleby at the Inman Methodist Church. One son, Ronald Dean was born to this union. Harold and Helen Farmed northeast of Page, growing corn, milking cows and doing the usual farm chores.

In 1969 the couple moved into town. Harold continued to farm for another ten years. He then went to work at Holz Lumber and Hardware in Page. Harold later did carpentry work with Dennis Cork and Tom Connely. He was the maintenance man at the Page Cemetery for many years and he sat on the Page Town Board.

In the earlier years, Harold and Helen faithfully followed their three grandsons school and sporting events. He also took pleasure in their camping, fishing and hunting times together. The pair enjoyed camping at Fort Randall, playing bridge and taking a ride on the van to the casino.

He is survived by his wife Helen of 73 years, one son, Ronald (Janette) Asher, of O’Neill, NE, 3 grandchildren; Kevin (Jackie) Asher of Hastings, NE, Keith (Penny) Asher of Eagle, NE, Kent (Monica) Asher of Lincoln, NE, 10 great grandchildren, Samantha (Josh) Penas, Spencer Asher, Sydney Noonan, Sam Noonan, Skylar Asher, Brooks Asher, Trey Asher, Makenna Asher, Makenzie Asher and Kaylie Asher, 1 great great granddaughter, Claire Penas. Survivors also include one brother, Dick (Lois) Asher of Powell, WY, 2 sisters-in-law; Diona Asher and Lavonna Appleby, both of O’Neill, NE, Brothers and sisters-in-law Dick and Linda Appleby of O’Neill, NE, and Don and Doris Nissen of Council Bluffs, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

​He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and wives: Ben and Sylvia, Kenneth and Vonnie, Bob and Shirley, and Jerry; 2 sisters and husbands; Lily and Herbert Kemper and Helen and Al Snoeck; brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred Appleby, Bob Appleby and Irene Appleby.
