Gordon Johnson, age 92, of O’Neill died Thursday, May 26, 2016 at his home.
There will be a private family service at a later date.
Gordon Douglas Johnson was born in O’Neill on January 20, 1924 to Floyd and Clementine (Breiner) Johnson. He graduated from Atkinson High School in 1942. Gordon then moved to the west coast and enlisted in the US Navy on November 15, 1943 in Seattle, Washington. After being Honorably Discharged on April 14, 1946, Gordon returned to O’Neill and went to work on the family ranch, Johnson’s Three Eagle’s. He raised buffalo for a time on his ranch. Gordon also owned and operated Johnson’s Drive Inn.
Gordon was a gifted wood worker. He loved to ride horses, play the guitar, and was an avid hunter.
Gordon is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Jo Ann Johnson of O’Neill; two children, Douglas Johnson of Rushville, NE, Chrystal Mlnarik and her husband, Dave, of Lincoln; three step children, Pamela Newton of Springfield, Missouri, Brad Bell and his wife, Marcy, of Nashville, Tennessee, Steve Bell and his wife, Patricia, of Florida; eight grandchildren, Travis Johnson, Bowde Johnson, Makayla Johnson, Jackson Johnson, Cody Mlnarik, Tristan Mlnarik, Mackenzie Mlnarik, and Theron Mlnarik; three great grandchildren, Asher, Kayton, Eden; one sister, Linda “Gunner” Johnson of Rhode Island; one brother-in-law, John Schultz of O’Neill; and several nieces and nephews.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Russ Johnson; one brother, Otho “Russ” Johnson; and one sister, Lorraine Schultz.
