Funeral Services For Gerald G. Wichert

Funeral services for Gerald G. Wichert, age 80, of Norfolk, Nebraska, will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk. Pastor Terry Buol will officiate with burial in New Lutheran Cemetery in Norfolk at a later date.
Military honors will provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1644, American Legion Post 16, U. S. Navy Honor Guard, and American Legion Riders.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Norfolk Veterans Home.

Arrangements are by Brockhaus-Howser-Fillmer Funeral Home in Norfolk.
He died Saturday, May 21, 2016, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.
Gerald G. Wichert, son of Arther and Helen (Luedeke) Wichert was born January 29, 1936, at Norfolk, Nebraska. He graduated from Norfolk High School in Norfolk with the class of 1955. He was a member of the Army National Guard for three years during high school. Gerald served in the United States Navy from March of 1956 until March of 1960. On June 2, 1961, Gerald was married to Dorothy Ann Hirsch at Norfolk. The couple was blessed with six children: Gary, Sandy, Todd, Keven, Michele, and Scott. Gerald lived in Norfolk where he worked for Kinning Reil and later Classen Manufacturing as a welder.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1644, American Legion Post 16 and also a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk.
Survivors include his children, Gary (Sandi) McDonald of Black Hawk, South Dakota, Sandy Weiland of Norfolk, Todd (Cheri) McDonald of Lake Havasu, Arizona, Keven McDonald of Battle Creek, Nebraska, Michele (Pat) McCormick of Norfolk, and Scott (Lisa) Wichert of Omaha, Nebraska; 18 grandchildren, Jeannie, Stephany, Becky, Amber, Trisha, Melissa, Jeremy, Ryan, Tyler, Troy, Scott, MaCalya, Matt, Megan, Alyssa, Nathan, Josh, Jordan, and Jacob; numerous great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jeanene Oestreich, of Hadar, Nebraska.
Gerald was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy; one grandson, Michael; one brother-in-law Dennis; and his parents.
