Funeral services for Carole Blake, age 81, of Spencer, Nebraska will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016, at United Methodist Church in Spencer. Reverend Ray Weinerman will officiate, with burial in National Cemetery in Spencer.

Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Spencer.

Carole died Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at her residence.

Carole Jean (Enbody) Blake was born to Frank and Crystal (Heuton) Enbody on November 8, 1935, at their home in Atkinson. Carole’s family then moved to the family farm where they resided until World War II, when the family returned to Atkinson where Carole began high school. Carole graduated from Atkinson High School as Valedictorian on May 20, 1954, and was awarded the Regents scholarship to the University of Lincoln.

Carole taught school in rural Holt County for one year after her graduation and then went to work as a teller for Atkinson First National Bank. She worked there until August of 1962, when she married Thomas Edward Blake and moved to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where she began her career as a military wife. Two children were born to this union. Vicki Jean was born on October 15, 1963, and on August 20, 1972, Tom, Carole, and Vicki welcomed a baby boy, Thomas Edward Blake, Jr. The family was stationed at several bases in the United States and Europe.

In 1979, Carole, Tom, and family retired to an acreage east of Spencer. Carole drove for the school until she became the bookkeeper for Spencer Public Schools and was from this position that she retired. Carole enjoyed many things in life, including reading, her family, and having coffee at the station with her family and listening to all the old stories. Most of all, Carole enjoyed being with her husband and best friend, Tom, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Carole passed away at her home in Spencer, Nebraska on November 9, 2016, after a long battle with cancer.

Carole was preceded in death by her son, LCDR Thomas Edward Blake, Jr. on September 21, 2005; parents, Frank and Crystal (Heuton) Enbody; brothers, Ronald Gayle, Frank Henry, Frank Rollin, and Craig Rodney; sisters, Glenda Jayne and Marilyn Jeanette; and brother-in-law, Rolland “Jake” Kersch.

Carole leaves to mourn her husband of 54 years, Retired Major Thomas E. Blake, Sr.; her daughter, Vicki Blake and special friend Frida Espinal; grandchildren, Brandi Petersen and husband Kyle Petersen and their two daughters, Adyson and Aubrie, Brittany Dacorte and husband James Dacorte and their two daughters Amanda and Khloe, and Brooke Devall; Vicki’s adopted daughter, Danielle Peter; daughter-in-law, Jessica Blake Arlt and her children, Thomas Edward Blake, III and Lily Anne Blake; sisters, Donna Joyce Giles and Judy G. Brandt; special niece, Rolenda Jayne (Kersch) and her husband, Gary Boska; and numerous nieces and nephews.
