Funeral Services For Ardee Rose Meier

Ardee Rose Meier, 72, of Grand Island, Nebraska, died Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at CHI Health, St Francis Hospital in Grand Island. Memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Grand Island with The Reverend Richard Bringewatt officiating.

Inurnment of the ashes will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2016 in O’Neill, Cemetery, O’Neill, NE with a memorial service to follow at 11:30 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in O’Neill, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to Heartland Lutheran High School or Trinity Lutheran Church both in Grand Island, NE. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ardee was born on August 3, 1943, at O’Neill, Nebraska, the daughter of Arthur A. and Anna (Cihlar) Block. She resided in O’Neill, moving to Grand Island, Nebraska in 1991. She attended elementary school in Austin Texas, Grand Island Nebraska, graduating from McDowell High School in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1961.

Ardee was united in marriage to Harold N. Miller on August 6, 1961, in O’Neill, Nebraska. Mr. Miller preceded her in death February 16, 1981. Ardee later married Ruben E. Meier on August 3, 1991, in O’Neill, Nebraska.

In 1979 Ardee graduated as a LPN from NECC Norfolk. She completed additional education at St. Mary’s School of Nursing. She was employed by Valley Hope Hospital in O’Neill, NE for nine years later moving to Grand Island where she was a staff nurse at Riverside Lodge and a counselor at the Diet Center in Grand Island for many years.

She felt blessed by God with a large family. She enjoyed spending time with them, playing bridge with her friends, reading, and crocheting.

Ardee was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Grand Island where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School, was a member of the Lutheran Layman’s League, served on the Ladies Aid board, a member of the Altar Guild, and served on the board of education at Trinity Lutheran School. She had been a member of Christ Lutheran Church of O’Neil Nebraska for 30 years prior to moving to Grand Island.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Ruben Meier of Grand Island, a son, Todd Miller of O’Neill, daughter, Pamela Sobotka of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, stepson, Randy (Julie) Meier of Grand Island, three stepdaughters, Debbie (Rev. Richard) Bringewatt of West Point, Cyndi (Steve) King of Gibbon, Valorie (Dave) Burke of Brady, NE, 11 grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, brother, Larry Rouchey of Fairview, Pennsylvania.

Ardee was preceded in death by her parents, her first spouse, Harold Miller and a sister, Joyce Meier.
