A Memorial Mass for Allan L. Bartak, age 72, of O’Neill, formerly of rural Ewing, will be at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at St. John’s Catholic Church of Rural Ewing, with burial in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Rural Ewing. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M., Tuesday, March 31, 2015, with a 6:30 P.M. Rosary at Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill. Rev. Jim Kramper will officiate. Allan passed away Monday afternoon, March 30, 2015, at the Golden Living Center in O’Neill. Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.

Allan is survived by his stepmother Margy of Neligh, a brother Charles P. (Rita) of Ewing; four sisters, Judy (Bob) Eggerling of Neligh, Beverly (Rex) Weikel of Sloan, IA, Cathy (Keith) Palmer, of Ewing, and Christine (John) Olson of Bartlett:, 12 nieces and nephews and 20 great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, an infant brother Charles Eugene, and a nephew Brent Weikel.

Allan was born at Ewing, NE on September 5, 1942, the son of Charles R. (Bud) and Phyllis E. (Savidge) Bartak. He was baptized at St. John's Catholic Church, rural Clearwater, on September 27, 1942. In 1951, he became a resident of the Beatrice State Home for the Mentally Retarded, as at that time there were no programs or local facilities available for children with mental disabilities. In 1975, Allan moved to a group home in Ord, NE. While there he worked at Mid Nebraska (MNIS) in Burwell and later at a grocery store and MNIS in Ord. He was a familiar figure in the Ord cafe, always ordering a "hamburger, five cent coke, and fries." He especially enjoyed going for a ride and ice cream with his dad.

In June, 2003, he moved to Beverly Healthcare, now Golden Living Center, in O'Neill. Allan loved farm animals, tractors, coffee, sweets, Halloween, pumpkins, Christmas songs, and receiving gifts. He brought joy to many with his cheerful nature and occasional joke playing.
