The smoke smell and haze seen throughout Nebraska is actually from wildfires more than 1,500 miles away in Canada.

According to the National Weather Service, smoke from the raging Fort McMurray wildfires in Alberta as well as in Minnesota is to blame. More than 80,000 people have left that area, since the wildfires ignited last weekend.

There is an air quality advisory for Northeast Nebraska due to the smoke. The quality of air is expected to improve this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
