Twelve scholarships of $3,750 each will be award to seniors and recent graduates of six local high schools - Clearwater-Orchard, Elgin Public, Ewing, Neligh-Oakdale, Pope John XXIII Central Catholic and Wheeler Central.

The Lawrence Goscha Scholarship Fund, an affiliated fund of the Nebraska Community Foundation, has established scholarship opportunities for six area high schools and their graduates. Two scholarships will be awarded at each of the six schools.

One scholarship will be granted to a 2016 graduating senior and the second will be given to a graduate who is in his/her second or subsequent year of post-secondary education. Each scholarship is valued at $3,750. For an application or more information, please contact your local school’s guidance counselor.

Lawrence Nicholas Goscha was born on November 13, 1925, near Clearwater. He was one of 13 children.  Goscha attended country grade school and graduated from Clearwater High School in 1942.

For most of his adult life, Lawrence farmed with his brother in Antelope County. His Catholic faith and education were important to Lawrence, and it was his wish that he would give area youth an opportunity to further their education, particularly in the area of agriculture. Lawrence loved the land and was a life-long learner.

These scholarships will honor his memory.
