West Holt Medical Services Foundation is pleased to announce that McKenna Young and Rhonda Ketteler have been selected as our $500 spring 2016 scholarship recipients.

Young is a 2015 graduate of West Holt High School and is currently attending the University of Nebraska, Kearney studying pre-nursing. After graduation in December 2016, Young plans to pursue a bachelor of science in nursing at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Young said, “I have always enjoyed helping others. The idea that I could do this through my career choice is the most fulfilling concept for me. I see myself working and raising a family in a small town after I graduate. I feel compelled to give my future family the same opportunities I was given growing up, and there’s no better place to do this than Atkinson. Even as a college student, I always look forward to opportunities to come home to Atkinson and truly experience the good life.”

Ketteler is currently working at West Holt Medical Services as a registered nurse. Ketteler obtained her associates in nursing from Northeast Community College in May 2014. She is furthering her education at Nebraska Methodist College by pursuing a bachelor of science in nursing through their online courses.

Ketteler said, “I plan to complete my degree by May 2017 as I continue to work at West Holt Medical Services as a registered nurse. I am already learning new techniques that benefit patient care. I love my job and find a sense of fulfillment from the care I am able McKenna Young Rhonda Ketteler to provide to patients. This care also crosses into my volunteer EMT position for the Atkinson Fire and Rescue Department. Atkinson is a wonderful community and the hospital provides a valuable service to its community. Knowing people can get wonderful medical care locally is a comfort to the citizens here.”

The next deadline for the scholarship application submission is November 15. Anyone interested in receiving further information about the scholarship program, please visit our website at www.westholtmed.org and click on the Foundation tab or call the Foundation office at 402-925-1956.
