logan@pitzerdigital.com Mill Race Park now has another attraction for young children. The Atkinson Community Foundation Fund hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday at Mill Race Park in Atkinson to commemorate the grand unveiling of the new playground equipment. Approximately 50 people attended the ceremony, that included a free hamburger meal for all those in attendance. According to Shannon Olberding, Chair of the Atkinson Community Foundation Fund, said the new equipment was made possible by the combined efforts of the foundation fund and the people of Atkinson. "There were lots of donations of time, talent, and treasure from people all across Atkinson," Olberding explained. The new playground is already a hit with the children of Atkinson. Kids wasted no time playing on the new slides, monkey bars and ladders on the two-level equipment. The new equipment was necessary due to the deteriorating state of the previous equipment. The new equipment is the jump start project to what Olberding hopes to be the restoration of Mill Race Park. The City of Atkinson is currently working on a strategic plan to improve the campgrounds, restrooms, and the park in general to make it more attractive to both local residents and visitors to Atkinson. |
