Since 1982, the West Holt Medical Services Foundation’s Board of Directors have been providing financial foresight, oversight, and insight for the fundraising efforts of the Foundation.

The WHMS Board of Directors has announced the election of Board members, Jeff Kreitel, Marvin Smoot and Karlee Schrunk, each for a three-year term.

Jeff Kreitel joins the Board of Directors with over 15 years of experience in the medical sales industry. Kreitel said he hopes to share his sales and medical consulting knowledge to help raise funds for the growth of West Holt Medical Services.

Kreitel expressed his interest in joining the Board of Directors, “I was looking for a way to give back to the community and this seemed like the best fit with my background.”

For the last five years Kreitel has operated his own medical device and diagnostic distribution business called Rx Dimensions, where he sells DNA testing, pharmaceuticals and surgical implants. “I have always had a fascination with medicine and surgery,” Kreitel said.

Kreitel grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and graduated from South Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. He went on to complete his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska in Kearney.

Kreitel and his wife, Nicole (Vogel) moved to Atkinson two years ago from Omaha. Nicole is a Certified Public Accountant and does consulting work for Dana F. Cole & Company, LLP and Brown County Hospital. The Kreitels have 3 boys, Kole (4), Camden (2) and a newborn baby named Bohen.

Karlee Schrunk joins the Board of Directors as their newly elected Secretary and Treasurer. She said she is looking forward to sharing her written communication skills in the secretary role and her keen attention to detail as treasurer.

Schrunk shared her reason for joining the board, “I have a philanthropic spirit and I am always willing to help and give back to those around me.”

Schrunk graduated from the University of Wyoming in May of 2013 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Minors in Entrepreneurship and Dance.

Schrunk was recently promoted to Process and Documentation Coordinator at HDR Engineering in Denver, Colorado where she has worked for the past three and a half years (remotely since she moved to Atkinson in June of 2015).

Schrunk grew up in Littleton, Colorado with her parents, Tony and Karla Hanneman, and siblings, TJ, Chase, and Kelsie. Karlee married Nicholas Schrunk in June of 2015. They live out in the country where Nick tends to his cattle on the family farm.

Marvin Smoot joins the Board of Directors with 17 years of healthcare experience.

He started his career in organ and tissue banking and has served as the Executive Director of Clinic Operations at Sanford Health in Thief River Falls, Minnesota and the Practice Administrator for Plastic Surgery Associates of South Dakota/Rivers Edge Aesthetic Surgery in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Smoot was appointed Chief Operating Officer at West Holt Medical Services in December. In his new role he has operational oversight for the medical clinic, laboratory, facilities, environmental services, diagnostic imaging, and nutritional services with a focus on operational efficiencies, quality metrics and financial performance throughout the organization.

Smoot attended the University of Sioux Falls, earning a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, as well as a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate Degree from the Grand Canyon University.

As the Foundation’s newly elected Vice President, Smoot hopes to use his extensive healthcare knowledge to support the Foundation’s mission. Smoot shared his reason for joining the Board of Directors, “I would like to use this opportunity to have a greater impact on patient care. I have supported boards at larger healthcare organizations and hope to bring my experience and ideas to this board as well.”

Smoot  grew up in Cottage Grove, a suburb of St. Paul, Minnesota. He is married to Jenna and has four children. Jenna is currently living in Northern Minnesota and manages an accounting firm.

Kreitel, Smoot and Schrunk join board members: Jarrod Hamik, Shannon Dvorak, Miles Garwood and Bryan Rentschler.

Jessica Prussa, Foundation Executive Director said, “I am truly grateful for our Board of Directors who devote their time and resources for the betterment of West Holt Medical Services. Each board member plays a vital role in making an impact on our hospital and community."
