Atkinson Juniors Edge Neligh In 10 Innings To Advance At Area

It took ten innings, but Atkinson escaped with a 9-8 win over Neligh in the third round of the Class C Area 1 Junior Legion Tournament in Neligh Sunday. 

Atkinson stayed in control of the game for most of play, but Neligh used a four-run fourth inning to keep the game close and a two-run sixth to take a 7-6 lead late. Atkinson, the top seed in the tournament, did not go down easy, however, and scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie it up and send the game into extra innings.

Both teams scored a run in the eighth inning to keep their hopes alive, but it was Atkinson who was able to break the tie with a walk-off score in the bottom of the tenth to advance to the next round. 

Devon Dohrman earned the win on the mound for Atkinson, while Andrew Herley gave up the winning run to take the loss for Neligh.

Atkinson goes on to face Bloomfield/Wausa Monday at 5 p.m. Neligh falls to the loser's bracket to face Crofton in an elimination game Monday at 8 p.m. The winner of each game will advance to the championship game Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.
