In a battle to set of the finals of the Class C Area 1 tournament, Atkinson controlled the game from the start to earn their spot, beating Bloomfield/Wausa 14-7.
Atkinson came out of the gates quick, bringing in three runs in the first. Bloomfield/Wausa added three of their own in the top of the second, but that was all the closer the game would be.
Atkinson put up five more runs in the bottom of the second to take an 8-3 lead. Each team added two runs in the third inning. Bloomfield/Wausa had the lone run of the fourth inning, and neither team scored in the fifth. Bloomfield/Wausa scored one more run in the top of the sixth before Atkinson's offense was ignited in the bottom of the frame, scoring four runs to before the defense shut out Bloomfield/Wausa in the seventh to end the game.
Atkinson moves on to the championship game Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Neligh. They await the winner of the Neligh/Crofton game. The winner of the championship game earns an automatic bid to the state tournament, hosted by Tri-County.
