The Atkinson community experienced an extreme amount of severe weather on Monday evening.
Storms rolled through the area, causing the National Weather Service to issue flash flood warnings for Holt county. While the warnings were initially issued for the northeastern section of the county, the storms also did have quite an effect on the northwestern portion as well.
Atkinson had reports of precipitation ranging from .63 inches up to three inches in some areas. That heavy rain fall caused flooding throughout the town.
The most extreme effect of the storms, however, was the hail. The amount of hail, reported as large as quarter-sized according to reports from stormersite.com, was so great that it left a blanket of white on the ground, leaving the town looking as if it had seen a recent snow fall.
Holt County is again in a flash flood warning and hazardous weather outlook throughout the evening, according to the National Weather Service. The northwestern part of Holt County is in a severe thunderstorm warning. Half dollar-size hail is possible.
