West Holt struck gold on Wednesday to claim the Class D state championship in golf, and junior Mason Hale almost did the same.
Hale edged Kyon Neal of McPherson County by one stroke to finish second. The West Holt junior was +5 on the day and +9 over the two days for a 153. Bryce Kerkman also finished in the top 10, tying for seventh with a 163. He shot +9 Wednesday to finish +19 for the tournament. The Huskies shot a two-day team score of 661 to outplay Randolph by three strokes. Creighton finished in third with a 675.
