In a heart-stopping championship game that came down to the final seconds, St. Mary's finished the season as the Class D2 runner-up.
Wynot topped St. Mary's 41-40 at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Saturday night.
The Cardinals took the lead from Wynot with 1:24 left in the fourth quarter, up 39-38. Sydney Hupp blocked a Wynot shot on the other end of the court, but quick play from the Blue Devils caused a jump to give the ball back to Wynot.
Hupp was able to grab the rebound for St. Mary's on the next play and was immediately fouled. She hit the top end of a 1-and-1 for the two-point advantage.
But Wynot responded with a three-pointer at the top of the key by Cortney Linder for a one-point lead.
The Cardinals got the ball back and had a chance to score at the buzzer but fell just short on the shot, ending the season as the state runner-up.
