Water department personnel have found what could be the source of the recent E.coli positive in the City's water system.
Tuesday personnel were flushing storage tanks for the second time, they were flushed two months ago after the first E.coli was detected in the water system. This time, at the Ground Level Storage tank, debris was found in the over flow screens that was not consistent with routine flushing. Immediately someone was sent to climb the tank.
It was found that the vent cover had come loose and blown off. Inspection of the storage tanks were conducted by an independent contractor in May of this year. No defects were reported at this time.
Repair of vent cap was done immediately on both tanks. The interiors of the Ground Level Storage Tanks will be inspected by Water Department personnel prior to shock chlorination before returning them to service.
The City will continue to chlorinate the water for six months unless the State says we need continue for a longer period of time.
