O'Neill runners were among the more than 200 high school athletes from 18 school who competed in the Boone Central Invitational in Albion on Friday.
In a unique format, this meet places the top 5 competitors out of each grade division, so runners are going against those in the same grade for a chance at a medal.
The O'Neill runners had four girls finish in the top 20 overall; however, only two received medals. Taya Rainforth placed 5th among freshmen girls and Kadra Sommersted-Simmons was 4th for seniors. Sophomores Whitney Watson and Hali Kloppenborg finished ahead of their teammates, but came in 6th and 7th in the sophomore division, narrowly missing out on medals. The team finished 3rd overall.
In the boys race, Nathaniel Jennings was edged out of the medals in the junior division, placing 6th with a time of 18:22. He was followed by junior Caden Moore in 9th place and senior Cody Watson in 13th place. The boys team earned 5th place.
