A Celebration of Life beginning with Military Rites will be held on August 6 at 11:00 a.m at the Atkinson Community Center for Robert Earl LeMunyan. Arrangements are under the direction of Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill.

Robert was born on October 22, 1921 in Atkinson, Nebraska to Frank and Victoria Kubart LeMunyan. He was the youngest of four children. He passed away on April 4, 2016. He was born and lived his entire life on the family ranch in Green Valley Township southwest of Atkinson. He attended the same country school near the ranch that all of his own nine children attended and graduated from Atkinson High School in 1939.

On September 3, 1943 Robert married Betty Smith in O’Neill, Nebraska. They were married 71 years until her death in December 2014. To this union, nine children were born. Bonnie (Darrel) Falke of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, LaVerne (Deborah) LeMunyan of Riverside, California, Linda (Ritchie) Goebel of Laurel, Nebraska, Gail LeMunyan of Grand Island, Nebraska, Dick (Karen) LeMunyan of Riverside, California, Cheryl (George) Orbin, of Lincoln, Nebraska, Dean (Vicki) LeMunyan of Akron, Iowa, Denise (Scott) Paige of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Audrey (Tracy) Obermire of Norfolk, Nebraska.

Robert joined the US Army in 1945 and served through the end of World War II. His greatest passions in life were his children and his cattle. He was handy with tools and helped build their house on the ranch as well as center pivot irrigation systems and steel buildings.

All of his children as well as his 15 grandchildren, several step grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren fondly remember him for tractor rides in the hayfield and snowmobile rides in the winter. He enjoyed horseback riding, hunting and fishing. Robert was a member of the American Legion, Card Clubs, and enjoyed a good game of billiards. His bright smile and sense of humor could put a smile on anyone’s face.

He is survived by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as three sisters-in-law: Sylvia Morgan of Atkinson, Nebraska, Genevieve Forbes of Fort Collins, Colorado and Holly (Charles) Shane of Atkinson, Nebraska and many nieces and nephews from coast to coast.
